Checking Application/Browser Version

To ensure the solutions operate in an optimum manner, it is suggested to use the recommended software version.

Following are the steps to check application and browser versions:

1. Operating System - Windows XP / Windows Vista

Right-click the My Computer icon  on your computer screen. 

The operating system is displayed in the General tab.

2. Browser - Solutions will work best in Internet Explorer V6.0 (IE6) and IE7, Mozilla Firefox V3.0 browsers.

      Double-click the Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox icon to open the browser.
      Click Help > About Internet Explorer. 
      OR
      Click Help > About Mozilla Firefox. 

3. PDF - Reports work best in Adobe Reader 7, Adobe Reader 8.

4. Excel - Sheets can be read best in Microsoft Excel 2003 or Microsoft Excel 2007.

5. Freeware/Unauthorized Software - Desktops/Laptops should not have any freewares like Google toolbar, deskbars, etc installed. Such freewares use a lot of memory on your machine. This can not only cause the solutions to operate extremely slow but also harm your computer by downloading malicious viruses.

Freeware downloads should not be allowed as per corporate policy.

 

Computer Settings

Configuring Settings to Open Reports

Configure Internet Explorer to open Microsoft Office files in the appropriate Microsoft Office program. 
Follow the steps below to ensure the system asks for option after downloading Excel files from Reporting solution.

1. Double-click My Computer icon. 

2. On the Tools menu (or the View menu), click Folder Options (or click Options). 

3. Click the File Types tab.

4. In the Registered file types list, click the specific Office document type (for example, Microsoft Excel Worksheet), and then click Advanced button (or click Edit). 

5. In the Edit File Type dialog box, deselect the "Browse in same window" check box (or deselect the Open Web documents in place check box).

6. Check Ask Open after the document downloads.

7. Click OK.

8. Click Close.

Delete Cookies

1.  Double-click the Internet Explorer icon. 

2. Click Tools > Internet Options. 

3. In General tab, under Home page section, click Use blank button. 

4. Click Delete Cookies button and click OK. 

5. Click on Delete files and select the check box for "Delete all offline content", then click OK. 

6. Click OK in the main window. 

7. Close and restart the browser so that the settings take effect.

1. Double-click Internet Explorer icon.

2. Click Tools > Internet Options.

Check the General, Security, Privacy and Advanced tab settings.

In General Tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click Settings button and make the changes as shown in the screen shot:

1. Click the Security tab. 

2. Click Custom Level button.

          In the Security Settings window that appears, select the appropriate options, as displayed in the below screen shots.

Bandwidth Requirement Calculation

Approximate bandwidth required at a location is calculated based on the below two points:

1. Bandwidth required per user to access hosted SMB application (A).
   (Approximate 20Kbps bandwidth per user is required to access SMB applications. We are re-validating this for current SMB hosted applications.)

2. No of concurrent connection from that location (B)
   B is calculated based on number of machines available at that location. We take input from customer about number of machines available at that location. We consider approximate 75% of concurrency.

Total bandwidth required = A x B
Considering 10 machines at one location
B = 75% of 10 = 7.5 (approx. 8)
A = 20 Kbps
Total bandwidth required at this location = A x B  (20 x 8) = 160Kbps

Network Connectivity
MPLS or Broadband is used for providing connectivity. These connections are available in the range of 64Kbps, 128Kbps, 256Kbps, 512Kbps, 756Kbps, 1Mpbs, 2Mbps etc.
 

• MPLS is point to point connection and provides 1:1 ratio (1:1 committed bandwidth, that is if we purchase 1Mbps MPLS link we will get 1Mpbs committed bandwidth)

• Broadband is shared bandwidth and provides 1:4 ratio (1:4 committed bandwidth, that is if we purchase 1Mbps Broadband link we will get 256Kbps committed bandwidth)

So in above example (with 10 machines at one location) –

• MPLS connection– we will go with 256Kbps link (as that is the nearest available MPLS bandwidth)

OR 

• Broadband connection– we will go with 1Mbps link (1Mbps link with 1:4 ratio will provide 256Kbps bandwidth)
